familybrain holds the private details of your household, so we keep this simple and honest. Here's what we collect, why, who else touches it, and the control you have. Plain language — no dark patterns.
What this is
familybrain is a personal, non-commercial project — built and run by a private individual in Zürich, Switzerland, and shared with friends and family. It isn't a company, there's nothing to buy, and your data is never sold or used for advertising. We're telling you this so you know exactly who's on the other side of your family's data: a person, not a corporation.
Who to contact
For anything about your data — access, correction, deletion, or just a question — reach us through the contact form or at privacy@familybrain.ch.
What we collect
- Your account: name and email address you sign up with.
- What you put in: the events, tasks, reminders, notes, people, and family details you and your household add — this is the core of the service.
- Connected calendars: if you connect Google Calendar, the calendar events you choose to sync.
- Forwarded email: if you forward a message to your family's capture address, its contents (so Iris can pull out the dates and tasks).
- Technical basics: sign-in session, device/push token if you enable notifications, and minimal logs needed to keep the service running and secure.
Why we use it
Only to run the service for you: to show your family's plan, to let Iris (our assistant) notice clashes and suggest who could help, to send the notifications and emails you ask for, and to keep the service working and secure. We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising.
Iris and AI processing
Iris is powered by Anthropic's Claude. To answer you and draft suggestions, the relevant parts of your family context are sent to Anthropic to generate a response. Anthropic processes it to return that response and does not use familybrain's data to train its models.
Who else processes your data (sub-processors)
We rely on a small set of trusted providers, each only for what their role needs:
- Google Firebase (Google Cloud) — secure storage, authentication, and your synced Google Calendar data.
- Anthropic — the AI that powers Iris.
- Resend — sending and receiving the service's email.
- Vercel — hosting the application.
Some of these process data outside Switzerland (for example in the EU or the US). Where that happens, it's covered by appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
How long we keep it
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. Delete something in the app and it's removed; ask us to close your account and we delete your household's data, except where we're legally required to retain limited records.
Your rights
Under the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (and the GDPR if you're in the EU/EEA), you can ask to access, correct, export, or delete your data, and object to certain processing. Just contact us — we'll help, free of charge.
Children
Family plans naturally include children's details (a school pickup, a bedtime, an allergy). Those are entered and managed by the adults in the household, who are responsible for that information. We treat it with the same care as everything else.
Cookies
We use a single sign-in cookie to keep you logged in. No third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Changes
If we change anything meaningful here, we'll update the date above and, for significant changes, let you know in the app or by email.
